For professional windsurfers sponsorship deals are an important part of their income. There are always a lot of things happening around that topic in the windsurfing industry.

First of all, Angulo managed to get Gutek Kurczewski (POL-75) on their team. This young talent has a beautiful track record already, being the 2009 Junior Slalom World Champion. And with Josh Angulo as your mentor, nothing can go wrong .

Jesper Orth is joining KA Sails. He was sailing for Severne Sails. KA Sails is maybe not so familiar name but those sails are fast. Two of their riders broke the 50 knots barrier with a regular production sail. Very impressive. Lets see if Jesper can accomplish the same.

Dutch freestyler Davy Scheffers will enforce the Sooruz international windsurf team. Congratulations!

Finian Maynard is switching from Neilpryde to Gaastra. That’s remarkable since he has been part of the Neilpryde team for quite a while now. And Neilpryde sails are still considered as one of the best sail brands in the world. The new Gaastra Vapors are looking great too, though. Check out this sneak peek.

Neilpryde Magic Moments

Magic Moments – That’s the name for the new Neilpryde video. In this video you can expect full action images shot at the pwa world tour in Pozo. Antoine Albeau dominates the slalom windsurfing course and Ricardo Campello is attempting a triple loop.

Campello didn’t get the $10.000 ,- that was promised to him if he landed a triple forward loop. But because of his good attempt he will receive $5.000,-. Still very nice .

GPS Speedsurfing and Sponsoring

GPS-Speedsurfing.com has secured Neilpryde, Tushingham and Select as new sponsors. This is a very good development. GPS Speedsurfing is created and managed by volunteers so money is always needed to keep the site up and running.

Creating and managing a site is not for free. Hosting, system administration, traffic are all things that must be taken care of. Thanks to the new sponsors it is possible to further extend and build the GPS Speedsurfing community. As windsurfing advertiser it is also a great opportunity to get you brand known by (potential) buyers.

The Neilpryde RS Racing and RS Slalom MKIII campaign online!

On the Neilpryde website you can find fresh information about their ultimate racing machines. The RS Racing EVOII and the RS Slalom MKIII are updated with a some new features which makes them even better then last year. (According all the marketing info ).

RS Racing EVOII
The Dynamic Clew Concept is the biggest changes this year. Last year you had a similar cutouts, in 2009 these cutouts has become larger. The cutouts will improve the handling of the sail but it will also improve the range of the sail.

Because of the change in range, less sizes are needed to cover the complete range from Formula to high wind slalom racing. The main reason for developing sails with a bigger range has all to do with the new slalom rules for the new PWA World Tour. The new slalom format is called Slalom 63. Each windsurfer can choose 3 boards and 6 sails which he has to use the whole PWA Slalom season. This is completely different from last year where you could use 2 boards and 4 sails for each PWA event! A big difference which makes some people happy and some people very angry.

RS Slalom MKIII
The RS Slalom is always derived from the RS Racing. So you will also find the Dynamic Clew Concept on these sail and the reduced the amount of sizes that will be produced for this year. The mast sleeve has been narrowed even more to improve the handling during water starts.

I haven’t found the prices for these sails but expect them to be expensive. Really question yourself if the RS Racing is the way to go. The RS Slalom will be a sail that is almost as fast and good as the RS Racing but for less money. This is mainly because you can use a different mast in it. The RS Racing will perform the best with a X9 mast, the X6 mast will be great in the RS Slalom. And there is a big price difference between those masts.

When you buy a new sail, check the requirements on the sail because such a high-end sails as the RS Racing (or any sails for that matter) will not perform to the max if you buy the wrong mast with it.

Neilpryde new sponsor Martin van Meurs

Dutch speedsurfer and initiator of gps-speedsurfing.com found a new sponsor! Neilpryde will provide his sails in the upcoming season. In this forum thread (in Dutch) he explains why he is switching.

This is bad news for Maui Sails because they will lose a windsurfer that is really dedicated in promoting the windsurfing sport and specifically gps speedsurfing. And off course everybody sees the windsurfing equipment he is using. This forum thread on the Maui Sails website is also confirming he is leaving Maui Sails.

Update 5-jan-2010: Martin van Meurs changes sponsor again.

Broken Neilpryde X6 mast

There were really good windsurfing conditions on November 21 st. I was windsurfing at Muiderzand, the Netherlands. The wind was blowing with 22 knots. Unfortunately I was forced to swim back to the beach because my brand new Neilpryde X6 mast broke. After 30 minutes I was back on land again. Luckily I was wearing my winter steamer because it was very cold!

Last Saturday I returned the mast to the windsurfing shop. They couldn’t tell me if I would get a new mast. Probably this is just a warranty case otherwise I will be pissed. My mast broke low in the base. If your mast breaks at boom height people will think you put on the boom to tight. But that is not possible in my case…let’s see what happens.

Update: After a few weeks I received a brand new base without any costs.
