For all Dutch and other European windsurfers who windsurf at Strand Horst: It is now possible to buy a parking card for the new season. It will save you 10 euros when you buy it in the pre sale. The parking card will set you back € 32,50. Not that expensive if you ask me. This offer expires on the first of May.

Here are some advantages of having that parking card:

• It is viable at other RGV recreational areas
• You can use it from 1 may 2011 till 1 may 2012
• It will save you money if you go more than 7 times

Mind you, if you have a vehicle longer than 6 m you need to buy the more expensive one, which costs  € 64,50.

Sander van Huizen at full speed

Sunday was a great windsurfing day in the Netherlands. The absence of wind started to annoy me a bit so I was really happy with this day. But the lack of wind in the passed weeks gave me some time to get my RS Slalom repaired without missing to much action.

Anyway, Jeffrey (also a Dutch Fun Speeder) made great photos during that day. He was standing in the water while the speedsurfers were passing him at high speeds. That’s is possible at Strand Horst since the water is knee deep. I hope you were also on the water otherwise you missed a lot of action. Check out his shots over here.

This year the Dutch Championship Icesurfing will be held at Strand Horst today. The event should have taken place last week but was postponed due to bad weather conditions.

The event looks very promising because the weather conditions are good and al lot windsurfers decided to join the competition. Volunteers worked hard to get a beautiful track for the icesurfers ready. And they did a great job, as you can see.

You can follow the iceracing competition online because all the contenders are wearing an GPS device. So you are able to see where they are on the track and how much speed they have. Telstar, one of the biggest windsurfing shops in the Netherlands, has a webcam up and running.

The last Fun & Speed Meeting (FSM) of the year will take place at Strand Horst, the Netherlands. This windsurfing event is all about getting your windsurfing skill level up. But it’s also about having fun and help each other to improve.

That GPS Speedsurfing is getting popular is shown by the more than 70 participants (it’s not possible to register anymore). And best of all, the weather forecast is great so don’t forget your GPS device.

Friday afternoon seem to be a great surfing day, but it turned out to be a horrible day. Because of the unpredictable weather several kitesurfers had an accident.

The weather shifted quickly from windy to stormy weather. One of the kitesurfers was picked up by a wind gust and was smacked into a nearby building. As a consequence he incurred back lesion. An other kitesurfer was missing and but was localized by a rescue helicopter.

The rescue services hurried to the wounded kitesurfer where they gave him first aid. Unfortunately they were not able to rescue him.

These horrible accidents show how dangerous kitesurfing can be. Also, this is not the first time an accident like this has happened. Last year a german guy had a similar accident (=dutch link) and was also heavily injured.

Since I don’t have a lot of experience with kitesurfing  it’s hard to imagine how accidents like these happen. I heard kites have a de-powering system or some other rescue system, but when you are already 10m up in the sky you are too late to de-power your kite.

As a kitesurfer you clearly need to know what you are doing. Check always the wheaterforecast for your surfspot and don’t overestimate your own skills. Try to avoid any obstacles and try to train on these extraodanary situations.

Here is a short windsurfing video at Strand Horst (in the Netherlands). I was filming and just testing the camera on november 2003. By coincidence a few gps speedsurfers were on the water speeding. One of them was Neilpryde sponsored windsurfer Martin van Meurs.
