Help with choosing a (Starboard) windsurf board

Starboard released a new tool to help you make a better board selection out of their range of windsurfing boards (and they have a lot of boards to choose from).

I thinks it’s great that Starboard is releasing a tool like that. Off course will it help them to sell them the correct boards. As result you will get more people having fun with Starboards on the water. And eventually more happy customers for Starboard. A win-win situation for both sides.

In step 2 Starboard explains that the volume is one of the most defining physical characteristics. So it’s really an important step when deciding which board you should choose. But they don’t clearly explain what volume is right for you. I think it would be better to show which factors are important for choosing the correct volume. Factors like which boards you currently own, in what wind range you are going to use the board, what level your at and your weight.

Mistral and Anders Bringdal collaboration!

Mistral told in an press release that they and Anders Bringdal have reach an exclusive worldwide licensing agreement for windsurf boards. As result a new generation of Mistral boards will be produced. Anders Bringdal is a four times world champion windsurfer and he doesn’t look bad on the speed tracks as well .

Mistral is hoping that the can bring new life to the Mistal brand as they did with the sponsoring of Robby Naish 33 years ago. Boards & More will lose their license since this deal is an exclusive one with bringdal.

The new of Mistral boards can be expected at the end of November. A series of slalom boards will be made and also a board purely focused on longdistance GPS Speedsurfing and a pure GPS Speedboard. In total we can expect about 14 different boards. His own board line, AB Boards, will probably ceace to exits. Let’s see what Anders will bring us!

Starboard: an inside look

The french Windsurf Magazine had a great inside look in the headquarters of Starboard. Windsurfer Cyril Moussilmani showed them around. A while back I posted a video from Kevin Pritchard who was also talking about Starboard and testing the iSonic windsurf boards. He showed a lot in his video, at least that was what Starboard thought. So eventually he had to take the video offline. Anyway, here are the pictures of the fotoshoot at Starboard HQ.

Windsurf board repair

Finally! After 3,5 weeks I have my windsurf board back. I damaged my board the first windsurfing session of the season. It was not a big ding but because I’m not that handy I decided to bring my windsurfing board to a well known shop in the Netherlands. It’s called Telstar in Harderwijk.

When I showed the damage I asked how much it was going to cost me, about 50 euro they told me. A reasonable price. When I picked up the board I had to pay 112 euro. That`s a big difference!

I don’t mind that the reparation costs were more expensive than expected, at least they should have informed me about the price difference. Unfortunately Telstar didn’t. Luckily the damage is gone and the repair is well done. Also the striping is back to it’s old condition.

Tip: Pay attention to what you agree on when someone else repairs your windsurf board.

Kevin Pritchard talks about testing at Starboard

Kevin Pritchard posted on his blog that he went to Thailand to test new shapes at the Starboard development headquarters a few days ago. In the short movie he tells us how the testing is going. I don’t get the impression that testing windsurf boards is a very stressful job

Update: Unfortunately the movie is removed from Kevin Pritchards blog because Starboard thinks it’s revealing to much of the starboard development center. Luckily the movie is still on the net. You can find it at dailybits.be

Windsurfing equipment RRD 2009 unofficially online

A lot of big brands are restyling there website. RRD (Roberto Ricci Design) is also busy with the developments. All windsurfing info is, despite the developments, already accessible. RRD is using this URL www.rrd.it/y13/ to the windsurfing equipment. With a small tweak the new page is shown. This links referring to the new equipment: www.rrd.it/y14/.
